Boise Idaho: Introduction to T’ai Chi and Qigong
Tuesday, 10 am 11 am January 6th through May 26th
These days, one can hardly turn around without seeing an article extolling the virtues of t’ai chi and qigong for health and longevity. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find information about this amazing art and when found, many are confused and put off by how different it can seem compared to traditional western ideas of exercise.
Here is a chance, with a five-month course, to learn the basics of t’ai chi and qigong and dip your feet into the vast pond of this ancient art. During the course, you will learn a series of simple, easy, qigong (chi gung) exercises that will lead you to increased relaxation and better balance. You will also learn the beginning moves of the t’ai chi form which takes years to learn and a lifetime to master. Don’t be put off by that sentence, it’s not necessary to study for the rest of your life to enjoy the benefits of this class. T’ai chi is a lifelong art because it grows with you and one can actually get better at it as they age, unlike more strenuous exercise routines such as running, biking, tennis, or skiing.
Along the way, your instructor, Greg Harley, will also impart some of the history of the art and how it evolved out of the philosophy of the ancient Chinese culture.
Once you have completed the course, you will be prepared to continue learning the form in Greg’s on-going classes. If you choose not to continue, you will still be able to use what you have learned to stay healthier.
Greg has been studying Master Henry Wang’s t’ai chi for almost 30 years and has been teaching for 23 years.
